What features actually matter in an automated trading bot?

I’m trying to understand which features of trading bots are genuinely useful and which ones are mostly marketing. There are bots offering strategy automation, portfolio management, backtesting, indicators, copy trading and all sorts of additional tools. As someone researching the subject rather than an experienced algorithmic trader, it’s difficult to tell which features should be considered essential and which are only relevant to more advanced users. I’d also like to understand whether a simpler bot can sometimes make more sense than a platform with dozens of settings. Are there any good resources that explain how to compare these features without making unrealistic claims about trading results?

I’d start with a general comparison such as Best trading bots. It gives you a place to start when looking at the different types of tools available. When comparing them, I’d pay particular attention to supported exchanges, available strategies, backtesting functionality, fees, security practices and how easy it is to adjust or stop automated strategies. The number of features isn’t necessarily an indication that one bot is more suitable than another. A complicated interface can even make things harder if you’re still learning. It’s also worth keeping in mind that backtested or historical performance doesn’t guarantee future results, especially in a market that can change quickly.
